Your Tummy Will Love Lassi

With the weather finally showing signs of warmer days, I thought a low-fat  Indian yogurt smoothie would help set the tone for the summer. Similar look and taste as Kefir and loaded with beneficial probiotics. However, the fermentation process is different in both. Kefir is fermented with live cultures along with yeast while Lassi is fermented only with live bacteria. Both pack a punch with beneficial bacteria cultures for gut health. Here is a useful resource to help understand the difference between the two.

Lassi is an Indian probiotic-rich yogurt drink made with minimal ingredients and spices (to add in some flavour) and zapped up together in a blender. Ready in minutes and so good for your digestion. Lassi helps in digestion as it contains lactobacillus - which lubricates the intestines and speeds up the passage of foods through the stomach and intestine. An excellent source of probiotics which help feed the good bacteria while preventing the growth of bad bacteria in your gut. A recipe for a happy belly.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp yogurt (Vegan yogurt works well too)
  • 3/4 cup filtered water
  • A pinch of sea salt
  • 1/4 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/4 tsp ground pepper
  • For the garnish - you can get as creative as you like or keep it very basic. Since I had a box of edible flowers at the local farmers market, I decided to add some visual flare to this batch of lassi.

Preparation:

  • Place all the ingredients together in a blender and blend till smooth.
  • Add your choice of garnish and serve chilled.

Enjoy your version of this gut healing lassi. Hope it tickles your chi and brings you a lot of comfort and joy in mindbody and spirit.
